The late John Robert Lewis posted a tweet on October 19, 2016, one of many similar iterations of a statement by both him and the late Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.:
“We are one people, one family, one house--the American house. We must learn to live together as brother & sister or we will perish as fools.”
Lewis and King develop other iterations of the same quote by including:
“...for hate is too heavy a burden to bear.”
These words lie at the center of these great leaders’ vocabulary, woven into the fabric of their rhetoric. “One People, One Family” keeps this language alive into the future, inspiring more “good trouble” from new audiences.
