Composer (Max MSP)

Music generated from computer vision analysis of bubbles.

This composition builds on the idea of non-traditional scores similar to John Cage’s experiments with the I Ching. Whereas Cage utilized physical objects in his decision making processes, seltzer.music chooses to track a natural phenomenon: carbonation.

The beauty (and inaccuracy) of computer vision is doubled by a video component that artistically flips between the Max patch’s visualized analysis and manipulations of the single-shot capture, while the MIDI data is piped through several virtual instruments, with minimal manipulation in the DAW.
