rainbowrain

A composition for mixed instrumentation and electronics, “rainbowrain” embraces the meditative nature of a jam-session and combines it with a smart loop-pedal that interprets incoming audio signal as streams of MIDI data. The Max patch then recombines fragments of the stored MIDI data into new melodic lines, which it plays through multiple oscillators that actively morph to resemble the most prominent overtones of what it is listening to. The composition also includes a visualizer that triggers dripping “rainbow rain” behind the ensemble with each entrance of a new pitch by the oscillator, culminating in a mosaic of color.
